The following line appended to ~/.gtkrc-2.0 enabled "emacs" keybindings for me in the text entry widgets: include "/usr/X11R6/share/themes/Emacs/gtk-2.0-key/gtkrc" Don't know if that's the "proper" way to do that but it seems to work ok (no warnings when starting gtk2 apps).
