I'm sorry I don't think I can do something except testing. Workaround? When I want to stop X, I switch back to console with Ctrl-Alt-F1 and Ctrl-C to kill the server (I'm using simple wm - twm). Restarting X with startx seems to be working with intel-1.5.1, but I'm not sure about this.
