My doubt is whether this message will be generated only for addresses other than link local & multicast or it will be generated for all the addresses. It depends on the kernel implementation, but, in any case, all routes that users (applications) manually install to the kernel will be announced through the routing socket, even if the routes are link-local or multicast ones. And, in my understanding, on FreeBSD 4.3 (and prior versions), other routes will basically not be announced. In particular, routes automatically installed via RA messages will not be announce through the routing socket. JINMEI, Tatuya Communication Platform Lab.
