I don't know anthing about the history behind the scenes, and I wasn't
making a personal attack on your work with ports. I know it's unpaid,
but I'll also remind you that when people who aren't comitters report
problems that they come across that don't actually affect them, that
they aren't paid either.

I noticed loads of ports that had been broken, than were not (now) broken.
I was able to "fix" the port that I used personally, so had nothing to
gain in reporting the issue, it was just the right thing to do.

Chris was grateful, some of the other replies have been quite antagonistic.

It's doubly ironic that all the times over the last 20 years I've offered
to help out have fallen on deaf ears, and now most of my src/ports patches
are just distributed locally because there's not much point raising a PR
when no-one ever looks at them.

99% of people I've dealt with from the project are helpful and
friendly, but there has been a definite increase in "clan" mentallity
over the last 10 years or so, which is a shame.
