It uses the 'asr' driver.  I believe a few people have been tinkering 
with it, but I haven't heard any stories.

My biggest gripe with it is that I understand they pair drives master/
slave on a single cable, leaving you in a very bad position if one of 
them dies.  Add that to an architecture designed for the heavyweight 
approach required to do SCSI, and it's just not very elegant.
