Would not build? Would not detect the DPT?  Would not detect any
disk devices?  You're being pretty vague here, so it's hard to know
which questions to ask.

You're being pretty vague here, so it's hard to know which questions
to ask.  My first guess would be that the kernel would not build because
you did not rebuild config and reconfig your kernel.
