I added an rc.d script (that runs very early in the boot)
that uses "gpart resize" and "growfs".  Then I
just build the image for a small (1G) card size.

There is a strange issue with gpart resize
that I'd like to track down -- if you have to resize
two partitions then you must reboot in between
them.   I don't understand why.

Apart from that oddity, it seems to work just fine.
(Large thanks to Edward's very recent changes
to allow growfs to work with mounted filesystems.)
