Having 1 in _submenus_ always with the meaning to go back (and if it is easy to make multiple keys working for one action, the backspace key too), and maybe 8 or 9 (and maybe space if multiple keys can be used in the future) always being 'more'/'next' in _submenus_ doesn't sound bad to me.
