The above command |will rewrite them. Let's hope you didn't damage the filesystem |structure itself, in this case, you should get away with the above. Thanks for the suggestion. It appears it blew part of the file system so I made an unplanned upgrade to 2.2-GAMMA. Had most of my files backed up but I've been dd'ing my corrupted image to get back what little text data I needed. (Boy could I have used Norton Utilities for UFS... :-). Randall Hopper
