I had similar problems in stable of a month ago, but it turned out that my seagate hawk was slowly dying. The core dump problem seemed very much like text was becoming corrupted during swap. I went back to 2.1-R and hammered on the drive with bonnie and it finally died altogether. Is there an easy way for you to test out your hardware under 2.1-R to make sure it still works under that release? -Chris
