A friend has bought an "ABP940-UW" Advansys card because it has better linux support. They make their own drivers and give away its source code, while Adaptec has pledged linux support but all drivers are from 3rd parties. That means some technologies may not be exploited on Adaptec's side. FreeBSD can easily run the linux drivers, or you could even edit the code if you wish.
