Easy 'nuff: grab the `des' distribution from ftp.freebsd.org or CDROM, cd to /, and type `cat des.* | tar xzf -' to extract. From then forward, all new crypted passwords (and others) will be in DES. Plus, your old MD5 passwords will still be recognized.
