That's what I decided too.  I already committed a patch to make it the
default.  It can still be turned back off with "-fno-sjlj-exceptions".

Have you tried "-frepo"?  It is supposedly implemented in egcs, though
I haven't tried it.  You might want to take a peek at the egcs info
pages that get installed with the port.  There is a little bit of
new discussion there about different approaches for instantiating
templates.
