Well, since no one seems to have replied yet, I can offer you a pointer to the Linux Assembly-HOWTO. I'm guessing that most of it applies to FreeBSD as well. Something you can do to work out the FreeBSD specifics is write a very simple C program and compile it with "cc -S". The "-S" switch tells cc to compile your program but not to assemble it.
