Make sure you've installed the mergemaster port, it's not part of the base distribution. This is the (slightly abbreviated) order of things: 1. Sync your source tree (eg, with cvsup). 2. Check /usr/src/UPDATING for any important info. 3. Build and install the world, either 'make world', or 'make buildworld' followed by 'make installworld'. 4. Run 'mergemaster' to update /etc, /, and some other spots. Do this with *care*. 5. Rebuild and reinstall your kernel. 6. Reboot. Surely someone will have a nit to pick regarding the above, but it's purdy close. I'll assume you have read or will read: http://www.nothing-going-on.demon.co.uk/FreeBSD/make-world/make-world.html PS - I don't think I've ever had cvsup running for more than roughly an hour and a half, even for a major update on my 24,000 connection.
