That *is* the Xeon's speed, in many ways. The cache is [don't flame me if I'm wrong, please...but the truth is OK ;-)] closer to the PPC 750's backside cache than it is normal level 2, so it's a lot quicker, and it has more of it. What I've seen of the PIII, both the regular and Xeon, is that it's a nice chip...*if* you put the right OS on it. -- --Andy Rowland Grand River Network andy@tigertown.k12.mo.us rowland@lyn.net > From: Presence <presence@squirtle.irev.net> > Date: Mon, 4 Dec 2000 17:07:31 -0800 (PST) > To: freebsd-stable@FreeBSD.ORG > Subject: Re: Xeon > > [snipped a buncha stuff] >Queries are > typically 20% faster compared to the PIII, probably due to the increased > cache on the CPU. > > Just my opinions. > - Presence > > [a bunch more] To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
