	got 2 external usr x2 modems and 3 internal x2 modems working
	with FreeBSD 2.2.2-RELEASE. serial ports set to 115200
	and crtscts.

	ocassionaly, the modem will not answer the first call (ats0=1).
	a second call is answered right away.

	settings changed from default are:
	at&d3&s1&u6s0=1s19=1

	try these:
	at&d3 reset on loss of DTR
	  &s1   modem controls DSR

	these three should not matter:
	  &u6 connectons must be 9600bps or better
	  s0=1  answer on first ring
	  s19=1 after 1 minute of inactivity, hang-up.
