Hi, I keep getting these on my IBM 9ZX disks about once a day. An earlier thread in this mailing list revealed that others too have been noticing these messages in their logs. In my case the sector numbers are all over the map, so these appear to be caused by transient (and recoverable) errors in operation. For all its worth, scsiinfo shows that the disk grown defect list is still at 0. Since the disk has not lost any sectors and I have lost no data, I've come to treat these as annoying but non-fatal errors. If someone has a better explanation, please share it with us and set our minds at ease. What does this actually mean? Is my disk > dying? I'm appending the kernel messages to this message.
