I only committed the patch to linux_socket in 4.0. The patch to
linux_file seems to revert code that is there for a reason (AFAICT). I'm
not saying the patch *is* wrong; I'm saying that I don't know why the
patch is correct and have suspicion that it might be wrong...

I planned to MFC as soon as technically possible.
