It has been noted before that FreeBSD has been known to drive the hardware a little harder that some other operating systems. The best bet is to compile a kernel with debug options switched on and then try and catch a kernel panic when the machine reboots. This should give an indication of what is going wrong. Take a look in the FreeBSD handbook for details of how to do this.
