Try it without devfs. :> vnconfig -c -s labels,reserve -S 256m /dev/vn0 :> disklabel -r -w vn0c auto : :farrago.feral.com > root vnconfig -c -s labels,reserve -S 256m /dev/vn0 :farrago.feral.com > root disklabel -r -w vn0c auto :disklabel: /dev/vn0c: No such file or directory : :> newfs /dev/vn0c : :farrago.feral.com > root vnconfig -c -s labels,reserve -S 256m /dev/vn0 :farrago.feral.com > root disklabel -r -w vn0 auto :farrago.feral.com > root newfs /dev/vn0 :newfs: /dev/vn0: `0' partition is unavailable Try /dev/vn0c here.
