I am extremely gratified by the positive response to my script, thank you. :) Steve Price wrote: > > [trimmed CC: and added doc] > > I think it would be great idea to write something up about > this. Any volunteers? I hope it's not considered gauche for me to write my own copy. :) I don't know what the "Really Quick Newsletter(tm)" is, but here's something in "newsflash" style: 17-September-98 A new solution is added to the sysutils section of the ports collection for dealing with the often complex problems of merging the configuration and other text files associated with a "make world" upgrade. The mergemaster script uses /usr/src/etc/Makefile to create a temporary root environment with the new files, then compares them to the installed versions. The heavily commented Bourne shell script should be fairly easy to understand, and offers many command-line and runtime options for dealing with the merge process. That may be longer than you're looking for, so feel free to tighten it up a bit. Thanks again, :) Doug > On Sat, 19 Sep 1998, Andreas Klemm wrote: > > # Could also be something for the "Really Quick Newsletter(tm)" > # or for the Newsflash on the webserver.
