Hey everyone, Im new to the list, just wanted to say Hi. Matter of fact, Im
new to linux too, got my first box setup just a week ago, and was tinkering
around with it - when I could find time between homework and school :-)
Anyway, right now I have a laptop now, a dell laptop , that I was curious
about putting linux on, but one worry of mine is , right now I have a
wireless network setup, along with a wired network. I have yet to find out
how to get my linux box on my network, and would appreciate any tips, such
as command line inputs to get it running. The Router's IP is 192.168.1.1
and I have every IP from 3-255 open, and the submask is 255.255.255.0, and
my DNS is 24.217.0.3, and 24.217.0.4 , my host is swbell, and my domain name
is mjkeatin, but being that Im new to linux I have no idea if that is all i
need, and no idea of the commands that I need to enter. If someone would
help me I'd appreciate it, a whole lot. IF there is anyother stuff I need
plz let me know, such as other promts. I have an AOPEN network card, which I
was told was compatible. And the router which shouldnt make a difference to
my knowledge, is a Linksys. I would really appreciate your help....

Anyway back to the point is a Linksys network card compatible with Linux? I
am yet to decide totally on my distrubution, I have FreeBSD on my Box right
now, which Im slowly trying to figure out how to use it . But Im not sure
which to put on my laptop, Im thinking FreeBSD or Mandrake or Debian. Any
suggestions? And anyone know if that will work, the network card that is ,
with linux kernel?

I also was curious, about how web hosting works. I buy the domain, and pay
the 9 dollars or whatever, if I have apache installed, and what not, how do
I get it so the website forwards to my box, do I need to buy a service that
does that ? Or can I tell the company I buy it from to do that , or what?

Anyway sorry for talking about non-laptop linux related issues, and if that
is a real problem, ill refrain from it in the future. But thanks anyway, and
Ill appreciate your answers.

  Thanks again
