Hi Jeroen,

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Read the following excerpt from
the FreeBSD handbook. In fact, the whole of section 18.1 is well worth
reading, not unlike most of the handbook. :-)

| 18.1.4. Using FreeBSD-current
|
| Join the FreeBSD-current mailing list <freebsd-current@FreeBSD.ORG>
|	and the FreeBSD CVS commit message mailing list
|	<cvs-all@FreeBSD.ORG> . This is not just a good idea, it
|	is essential.
|
|	If you are not on the FreeBSD-current mailing list you will
|	not see the comments that people are making about the
|	current state of the system and thus will probably end up
|	stumbling over a lot of problems that others have already
|	found and solved. Even more importantly, you will miss out
|	on potentially critical information (e.g. ``Yo, Everybody!
|	Before you rebuild /usr/src, you must rebuild the kernel
|	or your system will crash horribly!").
|
| The cvs-all mailing list will allow you to see the commit
| log entry for each change as it is made along with any
|	pertinent information on possible side-effects.

Now, it is obvious that people are _not_ reading this. Do you think the
people who are not reading this are any more likely to read a HEADSUP
file? If not, then it's requires work that doesn't have a meaningful
payoff.

I'm pretty sure that the only people who would benefit from the kind of
file you're asking for are people who don't need it. :-)

But there's no harm in your suggestion. So why am I "shooting it down"?
It will require work from "someone". For "someone" to volunteer for such
work, he or she will need to be convinced that it'll pay off. I'm just
trying to give you insight into why "someone" might not jump forward and
say "YES, I will take on this responsibility".

Ciao,
Sheldon.
