I don't know the KDE team, nor am I very familiar with KDE (though I
hear it's good). Folks who are better acquainted with these things should 
probably be the ones to contact them.

They'll probably be delighted to find a group that WELCOMES their
work. And if TPTB are willing to make it the default desktop, they
would feel right at home.
