I don't have any problem with cairo/pango. Only libchamplain in MC CVS, but it's no issue in FreeBSD ports as it's already patched sometimes ago. Did you follow the /usr/ports/UPDATING on png part? I used portmaster and it has been completed in a few hours ago. You should try to reinstall the cairo.
