I have the same problem with Acer Extensa 5620 laptop. How you can 
change the
lcd_brightness with sysctl? I can'nt find the brightness controll sysctl 
name.

I run on XOrg the xev program and it send me keycode for the volume up/down,
brightness up/down. And I use lineakd for controll the sound level with 
mixer.
And I thinks i use also for brightness level.
