Exactly that is the problem. The thumbnails in the MATE file manager
(whose name I cannot remember) looked the same.

So the problem has _not_ been solved by the update. This is an
important information.

Yes, it's no "stopped working" kind of bug, but it's really
annoying and requires explaining to the users who complain
about "black files". ;-)

It does not depend on the theme or icon set. Somehow the scaling
and preview generation component must have gotten some problem...
