As I understand it, not too many people use it any longer, with the advent of the internet, DNS etc.. UUCP mail has sorta fallen by the wayside. For most "leaf" uucp nodes, you simply route all mail to the smart host (usually your ISP) and let them deal with it. This is pretty straight forward to setup in your sendmail config. And, using mailertables - you can instruction sendmail on your direct UUCP connections, so that all works as well. That is, if the destination address is a direct UUCP connection, the mail will go that way - if not, it will go to the smart host. But... I have an old copy of the smail source I could send you if this is what you want...
