I don't think so. At the time I checked this in there was still a dependency in machdep for alpha - after several days of being unable to compile too- that made PROCFS a requirement. If you've editted the file for alpha, and compiled it, *and* booted it please say so, otherwise I'm going to assume you really don't understand the issue here.
