Thanks! It does indeed see the tape drive, and says freebie# camcontrol devlist <HP C1533A 9503> at scbus0 target 3 lun 0 (pass0,sa0) Now, there are already two lines for something similar in my kernel configuration file: device sa # Sequential Access (tape etc) device pass # Passthrough device (direct SCSI access) So something already seems to be defined. Given this, what do I have to add so that the device becomes configured (i.e., so that I can manipulate it with an mt command and use it for the dump command)? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wilko Bulte" <wkb@freebie.xs4all.nl> To: "Anthony Atkielski" <anthony@freebie.atkielski.com> Cc: "FreeBSD Questions" <freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG> Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2001 17:12 Subject: Re: Time for my first backup, how do I install a DDS drive?? > On Sun, Nov 25, 2001 at 05:08:50PM +0100, Anthony Atkielski wrote: > > Please don't crosspost > > camcontrol devlist will tell you what the FreeBSD kernel sees as far > as SCSI devices. > > You want to include the 'sa' device for sequential access aka SCSI tape > devices > > Wilko > > > Well, I've been sifting through the handbook and the Web and some books, looking > > for a procedure that would allow me to install my spare DDS drive on the system, > > and I haven't found out how to do it, so I'll ask here. > > > > I have just attached an HP 6000e external DDS drive (C1533A) as the one and only > > device on an Adaptec 2930W SCSI adapter that was already present when I > > installed FreeBSD (although it had nothing attached to it at the time).
