Just adding my findings,

I have a kenwood 72x CD slaved to a IBM 7200 ATA100 with no issues on one box.
I also have another box with yet another IBM ATA 100 with a pioneer 16x DVD slaved and a ultra160 card with 10k drive-s and yamaha scsi 16x10x40,teac 32x scsi
and asus GTS3, tv tuner and soundblaster live.

Both are on MSI KT266 boards. I have not had any ATA issues.
If I replace the cable on the first box to a 40 pin...my ftp speeds drop from 11mb per sec to under 5 on my local net.(hmm cant write fast enough?)
This leads me to believe it is functioning truely at 100 speeds. That and the simple fact it is faster than any os I have loaded on either box.

Thanks to all the developers and those who help !!
FreeBSD is getting better every day.
