Oh, I did mergemaster, that's when all the problems have started, I'm still learning how to use mergemaster. I did build new world, installed new kernel, rebooted and then ran mergemaster, then before I restarted the box again, after I used mergemaster, I decided to go ahead and see if everything is still functional, switched to another console, typed Login: root Passwd: password And got: Pam_authontication: permission denied. So, I dropped back to single user mode and repeated the whole process all over again, including cvsup, when everything was almost done, I got this weird error: http://community.webshots.com/photo/69996248/69996266FYKaAY ??? Thank you very much Best Regards, Anton -----Original Message----- From: Bill Moran [mailto:wmoran@potentialtech.com] Sent: Friday, April 18, 2003 2:17 PM To: Anton Zavrin Cc: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Please help, updated to 4.8 serious issues Anton Zavrin wrote: > Greetings, > After I updated my FreeBSD box from 4.7 to 4.8 I "lost" my users, but > heck with users, what I mean by lost is that I can't login, when I try > to login as the root or a regular user it says: > pam_authanticate: permission denied > so, I went ahead and re-updated my box from the very beginning, > including unnecessary at this point cvsup. Go back and read the docs ... if you don't realize the step you missed, I'll give you a hint: mergemaster. -- Bill Moran Potential Technologies http://www.potentialtech.com
