How funny this subject came at the right minute. I'm trying to install Red Hat 6.1 from one of the mirror FTP sites for one of our friends (client) as I type this email. Its not happening, every time the installation crash because it can not trackback a Python file. I looked in the FAQ at - for the curious - (http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/gotchas/6.1/gotchas-6.1-4.html#ss4.15) it was a common problem and the suggestion to this is to try a different FTP mirror site..well I thought Red Hat is easier to install and they are drifting towards the Windowz style so far I'm on my fourth try right now. besides of being pain in the ass installing it, it requires a manual specification of the ftp site and the path where you have to actually check it out and see if it is correct ( I don't see the ease in this one) compared to FreeBSD all you need to do is to pick a site from the list (no directory specification, no garbage-Now that is easy installation) once picked you are done, I did numerous FBSD FTP installations with not even a single problem. You don't have to specify nothing you just pick the site and go. IMHO I'm very disappointed from Red Hat. I always knew that FreeBSD Rocks I also thought that Red Hat won't be that terrible but I guess it is!. FreeBSD is easier to install and less buggy more robust and secure why in the world does my friend want a Red Hat on his machine? Have no idea, I guess he heard of it from the Masses!! Well I guess he have to try FreeBSD now and see a real OS. BTW I received the FreeBSD 3.4 CDs from Walnut Creek. You know what, I'm going to do next...:-). -- Majid Almassari, MSEE, MCP.
