[-- Attachment #1 --] I will start with being honest: I'm a complete newbie to FreeBSD, I'm used too the good old easy slackware linux. Yesterday I installed FreeBSD 4.4 and got my ADSL connection working in no-time. But then I installed XFree86 4 from the cdrom (not through the ports collection) I had several strange problems. Configuring X was easy, just like in slackware. But then I run startx and only X came up without a windowmanager. I already had installed KDE with /stand/sysinstall When other users started X they got twm (I guess), and that's not what I want because my whole family has to work on that pc :( I saw KDE only once and I don't know how I did that! In the meanwile I recompiled my kernel I used the GENERIC config file and only added device pcm options ext2fs After the reboot my mouse didn't even work anymore, only when I reenabled it in /stand/sysinstall My networkcards didn't come up anymore (realtek 8029's) and I had to do ifconfig manually and start my ADSL connection. What can I do to avoid all these problems? It isn't normal. I installed 4.3 several times without any problems. Is there somebody in this maillinglist with the answers? I do hope, I really want to run this beautifull os. Thank you, Wijnand Wiersma Ps, is it possible in FreeBSD to have a graphical login, like in linux starting in runlevel 5?
