Hello... I have a remote 3.4-RELEASE box (production box) that I would like to upgrade to the latest version (4.5?). I have searched and read and reviewed the FAQ, especially this page: http://www.unixguide.net/freebsd/faq/01.31.shtml which says: "We strongly recommend that you use binary snapshots to do this. 4-STABLE snapshots are available at Upgrading via source is never recommended for new users, and upgading from 3.X -> 4.X is even less so; make sure you have read the instructions carefully before attempting to upgrade via source this! " Now, I was told by several freebsd people (who know a hell of a lot more than I) that upgrading from 3.x to 4.x using binary snapshots is cake and can be done safely and easily remotely, without console access. My problem is that I can't find information regarding this.... whatsoever. Everywhere I look it just has the same line from a mirror of the FAQ. Does anyone have step-by-step instructions for upgrading 3.x (or 3.4-REL specifically) to the latest 4.x.....remotely/safely/with-minimal-downtime? Thanks. -MK To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-newbies" in the body of the message
