Standard answer is to check all rc.conf lines immediately above/below the change (especially for unterminated strings), but specifically look for local_startup="/usr/local/etc/rc.d /usr/X11R6/etc/rc.d" in your /etc/rc.conf and/or /etc/default/rc.conf file(s). Also check the permissions on /usr/local/etc/rc.d and all files therein, to make sure the execute bit is set.
