There is a statement in the /etc/bashrc file:
stty erase `tput kbs`
It appears twice in the file:
stty erase `tput kbs`
When I run tput kbs, nothing is displayed. Below is a snippet from the
bashrc file with the conditionals.

if [ -x /usr/bin/tput ]; then
if [ "x`tput kbs`" != "x" ]; then # We can't do this with "dumb"
terminal
stty erase `tput kbs`
elif [ -x /usr/bin/wc ]; then

stty erase `tput kbs`
