yeah, thanks that works
what does the '!' cause? would be good to know
i've seen this before in several mails about scite,
but in other context.

however, does not solve the other problem, but a temporary fix
would be (for gdesklets) to hack the .display-files.

i think a corrupt scite-config is quite improbable, because
the one i changed was local and there was the same problem
running scite as root (with the global configfile, except the
changed monospace-font)
