Did you put your root partition in "a" and make that > > the first parition on the disk? > Yes, "a" is the only partition. Fist slice there -- swap, second -- "/". This is your problem:---------------------------------^^^^^ / MUST BE FIRST. You cannot & must not use slicese, only real BSD partition. This really needs to be emphasized somewhere in a FAQ.
