same symptoms here, except 1.5 is my first firefox install.

so i did
  portupgrade -f linux-flashplugin-6.0r79_3 linuxpluginwrapper-20051113

then i softlinked libflashplayer.so & flashplayer.xpt into
/usr/X11R6/lib/browser_plugins per above

killed and restarted firefox, but about:plugins does not show
flash :-(

btw, know where i can get a nice gnome launcher icon for ff?
