Hmmmm...

Clearly, you'd need a program that could do a raw DHCP request using
an unconfigured network card.

I don't know that there has been that much work towards making
FreeBSD a "desktop OS".  I think you have to have assigned
addresses.

Such a thing would certianly be worthwhile.  Maybe the WIDE project
has something that will do this?
