Ok doc-people, we have a bogon.  The handbook list should say 

DEC DC21040/DC21041/DC21140 based NICs:

Doug White stands accused of saying:

And it should be noted that newer models of this board (rev D and above)
use the DC21041 in an incompatible fashion, and do not work.
