I'm going to skip a bunch here...

Listen to what your computer is telling you:  the directory /cdrom, the 
mountpoint, doesn't exist.  su to root and 'mkdir /cdrom' or mount it on /mnt 
or other convenient location.

Ditto here.  Since you didn't install from CD it probably neglected to make 
this directory.

Gr.  Make sure that file exists and the permissions are OK.  Or check the 
questions archive or FAQ.  I can't remember the solution off the top of my 
head.

Buying a SCSI CD isn't such a bad idea.  But I wouldn't waste money just to 
get the same error.  :-)
