I started using procmail a *long* time ago, and I've never heard of slocal (unless that's the filter program in ELM). I started using it because it got glowing reviews and guaranteed to do the correct sort of locking (via it's configuration test) so that it was using the same sort of locking the local mail program was using *AND* that it tested to make sure it worked. > Meanwhile I managed to figure out slocal and .maildelivery > before procmail and .procmailrc. That's because popclient is the only thing writing to the disk, where with fetchmail it uses the local MDA. I prefer using the local MDA (hence the reason I just switched to using fetchmail on my main email box recently). Losing mail is a very bad thing, and completely unacceptable to me. If I lose some FreeBSD email it's OK, but it's possible that I may lose some work related mail if locking isn't setup correctly, and that's unacceptable. To the best of my ability, I've *never* lost any email due to .procmail that wasn't my own fault. The only time I've lost email in the last 3-4 years is when I filled up my hard-disk, and no piece of software (except rm) can fix that. I've been using procmail for at least 3 years and it has *always* worked. However, Jordan has never gotten it working so I don't know what's different between his setup and mine. Nate
