Having to go through 2 boot managers is a pain for some people (though I don't know why. Just 2 keypresses are needed). To "fix" the problem, re-work your system so that you have FreeBSD on the 1st drive. If you don't have enough room on it, then just make a slice big enough to hold / and swap.
