[Note: posted to comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc and mailed to

I'm installing FreeBSD 2.2.2 on a Digital Venturis GL (PPro 200,
Phoenix bios dated 1/13/97). I boot from the boot floppy, disable all
un-needed devices in the visual kernel config, and continue with the
boot.

When it hangs, the screen reads (may be a typo or two, I'm typing this
in by hand),

 avail memory = 44982272 (43928K bytes)
Probing for devices on PCI bus 0:
 chip0 <Intel 82440FX (Natoma) PCI and memory controller> rev 2 on pci0:0
 chip1 <Intel 82371SB PCI-ISA bridge> rev 1 on pci0:7:0
 chip2 <Intel 82371SB IDE interface> rev 0 on pci0:7:1
 vga0 <VGA-compatible display device> rev 1 int a irq 10 on pci0:9
 vx0 <3COM 3C905 Fast Etherlink XL PCI> rev 0 int a irq 11 on pci0:13

It does have a 3COM 3C905 Ethernet adapter. For comparison purposes,
Win95 OEM-SR2 and NT Workstation 4.0 SP3 install and work properly on
this machine.

Any suggestions?
