That's one reason that I always tell people in my "Howto" page to turn
off the monitor while not in use and during reboot....

The Sony monitor that I've been using for years didn't seem to care
much about being in text mode for periods of time up to 3 days (long
weekend, power hit at the start...).  Your milage may vary, however.
