Hello!

I don't know wether somebody received this mail a few days ago or
wether it got lost. Therefore I'll send it again with the hope that
somebody can help me because it is very urgent!

I tried to connect an Outbox-RAID-System with an Adaptec 2940UW under
RedHat-5.0 Linux and get the following error message after kernel has
loaded the aic7xxx-Modul and tries to detect all connected scsi
devices
....
scsi0: Adaptec AHA274x ....
       <Adaptec AIC7880 Ultra SCSI host adapter>
scsi: 1 host.
(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Scanning channel for devices
(scsi0:0:0:0) Using wide (16 bit) transfers.
(scsi0:0:0:0) Synchronous at 20.0MHz, offset 8.
 Vendor: IBM Model: DCAS-34330W ....
 ....
Detected scsi disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
(scsi0:0:1:0) Using wide (16 bit) transfers.
(scsi0:0:1:0) Synchronous at 20.0MHz, offset 8.
scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 3, scsi0, channel 0, id 1, lun 0 Inquiry 00 00 00 ff 00
SCSI host 0 abort (pid 3) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
SCSI host 0 abort (pid 3) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
SCSI host 0 channel 0 reset (pid 3) timed out - trying harder
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
SCSI host 0 reset (pid 3) timed out - trying to shake it loose
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
SCSI host 0 reset (pid 3) timed out again -
probably an unrecoverable SCSI bus or device hang.

If I try the lilo option aic7xxx=verbose,extended
I get following output:

....
scsi: aborting command due to timeout : pid 3 ...
(scsi0:0:1:0) Aborting scb 29, flags 0x4
....
(scsi0:0:1:0) Reset called, scb 29, flags 0x84
(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Channel reset
(scsi0:-1:-1:-1) 1 commands found and queued for completion.
SCSI host 0 abort (pid 3) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
(scsi0:0:1:0) Reset called, scb 29, flags 0x805
.....
probably an unrecoverable SCSI bus or device hang.

his error only occurs if I power on the RAID-System connected to the
Adaptec-Controller. If the RAID is offline there is no problem.

The SCSI-IDs are: ID 0 = IBM harddisk
		  ID 1 = RAID (IFT 3102U
		  ....

The RAID-System is the IFT 3102U from "Infortrend".

All IDs and termination are set correctly. There is no problem with
DOS and BIOS (low-level format and verify are o.k.)

I tried to change all kernel (version 2.0.33) settings for the AIC7xxx
and also allowed scanning all LUNs wether there should be only LUN
0. Also, I tried the new aic7xxx-5.0.4.tar.gz but the same problems!

I would appreciate any help!

Thanks in advance!

Andreas
