I concur, but /is/ there a place to test things? I know that
lots of times I would like to get a complete echo of an email to
various kinds of destinations, (uucp, mailing list, blah blah).

There are test groups on Usenet, but these seem to me to be
spam sign-up sheets more than anything else.
